Small Moments Like These

Over the last 12 months, Above & Beyond have taken their sound and ethos across the globe.

The tour has encompassed an intimate gig in a London pub to two sold out dates at Brixton Academy, a celebratory radio show episode broadcast from Beirut to a sunrise set at Creamfields Argentina.

The dj and production trio have written a new track to say thank you to all the fans who accompanied them on – what they describe – as their most memorable year to date.

Small Moments Like These is the soundtrack to this video celebrating their tour.

Jono, Tony and Paavo have made the track available as a free download from their Facebook page.

Since the start of their career, Above & Beyond have pushed the frontiers of musical production and live performance. In the process, they have touched the hearts of their fans around the world and redefined Electronic Dance Music.

They have been and remain true pioneers.

Above & Beyond – Anjunabeats Volume 9

Above & Beyond Anjunabeats Vol 9 packshot

It has been quite a year for Above & Beyond.

In January they celebrated 10 years of their amazing Anjunabeats label.

In March they released their 200th single on the imprint.

In April they went on a massive 22 date tour of the US which included 2 sold out shows at the Hollywood Palladium in LA.

They then released their second artist album – Group Therapy – which earned an “artist album of the year” review in Mixmag.

And so, to the latest Anjunabeats Volume reflecting the diversity and sheer talent of the artists signed by the label.

Anjunabeats Volume 9 features the work of 20 artists including Cramp, Norin & Rad, Genix, Oliver Smith, Mat Zo, Arty, Mike Koglin, Sunny Lax and Above & Beyond themselves.

Check out a mini-mix taster of the album here.

“From the reflective, filmic pianos of Above & Beyond’s own unreleased Tokyo, through hypnotic progressive sounds like Jaytech’s Overdrive to the synth-frenzy of Nitrous Oxide’s iPeople and the explosive funk-charged house fusion of Mat Zo and Arty’s brand new collaboration Mozart, Anjunabeats Volume 9 captures the full emotional intensity of the Above & Beyond DJ experience” reads the promo material for the album.

During their career Above & Beyond have set the bar very high when it comes to production and performance.  I have no doubt that the standard of this new Anjunabeats album will be of their usual stunning quality.

I can’t recommend this album highly enough.

On the set of Above & Beyond’s Thing Called Love

Watch this short film to find out more about the creation of Above & Beyond’s new music video.

In this behind-the-scenes clip, director Ferry Gouw reveals Above & Beyond’s attempts to “try and introduce dance music as an everyday emotional thing that you experience.”

And Paavo, Tony and Jono explain some of the sentiments behind the track.

Thing Called Love is the new single from Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy album which was released on 6 June 2011.

New single by Above & Beyond

On 7 March 2011 Above & Beyond are releasing Sun & Moon – the first single from their second artist album.

Sun & Moon packshot

The song features vocals by Richard Bedford who also appeared on Above & Beyond’s debut album Tri State.

Above & Beyond have developed into hugely respected djs and producers with a dedicated following across the world.

In 2010 they played the closing set in the Dance Village at the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury; performed in front of 60,000 people at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles; headlined the Cream & Radio 1 Ibiza event at Privilege in Ibiza and, by the end of the year, were the no. 1 global trending topic on Twitter.

Sun & Moon is the first release from their eagerly anticipated artist album Group Therapy.

One of the trio – Tony McGuinness – has said of the new single: “Sun & Moon is really Alone Tonight part 2. It’s a break up song, but with a twist, namely the idea that even though relationships end in the physical world they live on in your memory forever.”

“The original piece of music it was written over is a gorgeous naked arpeggio piece called Mist that Jono and Paavo cooked up years ago and, thinking about it now, Sun & Moon has had possibly the longest gestation of any of our songs.”

“We played another mix of it in our live show in Beirut two years ago but the current mix, with a massive riff, is very much a product of our recent Group Therapy sessions.”

Remixes come from Kim Fai, Distance and 7 Skies.

Pete Tong has already dubbed Above & Beyond “the UK’s new dance superstars.”

I’m going to go further and say they are the world’s dance superstars.

I can’t wait to hear the new single.

On A Good Day

I’m going to let Tony from Above & Beyond tell you about this:

“We all read about the Detroit Urban Farms project and saw the documentaries and it really moved us all. To see a community reclaiming the crumbling city blocks to grow the food they need is an incredible story in so many ways. It was moving, topical and also a beautiful and apt illustration of what the song is actually about – triumph over adversity. As a video concept it was perfect from all angles.”

The video is directed by Steve Glashier who has made videos for Fatboy Slim and Juliette Lewis but the real stars are the Georgia Street Community Collective and the Detroit community who have united to transform their local surroundings.

As part of their 2011 US tour Above & Beyond will be playing a Detroit charity gig to raise money for the Georgia Street Community Collective’s current projects which include building a community lab and neighbourhood library.

Above & Beyond – some of the nicest men in trance.

Above & Beyond headline Brixton Academy

This has only just come in so it is very hot news!

Above & Beyond will be playing Brixton Academy on Saturday 30 October 2010. This will be their final London date of the year and their biggest solo UK show to date.

Their Trance Around The World show is aired on over 120 FM, internet and satellite radio stations and reaches over 20 million devoted trance fans.

This worldwide recognition reflects the stunning talent and grace of Tony, Jono and Paavo – true gentlemen as well as wonderful musicians.

More acts are yet to be announced but I would get this one in the diary right now!
